Matthew

 Teaching about Adultery. (Chapter 5)

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’28 But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

29  If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna.30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna.

Chapter 6

1Be careful not to make a show of your righteousness before people. If you do so, you do not gain anything from your Father in heaven.
2When you give something to the poor, do not have it trumpeted before you, as do those who want to be seen in the synagogues and in the streets in order to be praised by the people. I assure you, they have been already paid in full.
3If you give something to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4so that your gift remains really secret. Your Father who sees what is kept secret, will reward you.
5When you pray, do not be like those who want to be seen. They love to stand and pray in the synagogues or on street corners to be seen by everyone. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.
6When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is with you in secret; and your Father who sees what is kept secret will reward you.
7When you pray, do not use a lot of words, as the pagans do, for they hold that the more they say, the more chance they have of being heard.
8Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need, even before you ask him.
9This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, holy be your name,
10your kingdom come and your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
11Give us today the kind of bread we need.
12Forgive us our debts just as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.
13Do not bring us to the test but deliver us from the evil one.
14If you forgive others their wrongs, your Father in heaven will also forgive yours.
15If you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive you either.
16When you fast, do not put on a miserable face as do the hypocrites. They put on a gloomy face, so people can see they are fasting. I tell you this: they have been paid in full already.
17When you fast, wash your face and make yourself look cheerful,
18because you are not fasting for appearances or for people, but for your Father who sees beyond appearances. And your Father, who sees what is kept secret will reward you.

Luke (Chapter 18)

The Parable of the Persistent Widow.

1 * Then he told them a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.a He said,2 “There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being.3 And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’4 For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,5 * b because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.’” 6 The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.

7 Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them?8 I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

Exodus

Chapter 22

21 - Thou shalt not molest a stranger, nor afflict him: for yourselves also were strangers in the land of Egypt.22 - You shall not hurt a widow or an orphan.23 - If you hurt them they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry:24 - And my rage shall be enkindled, and I will strike you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

Chapter 23

1 - Thou shalt not receive the voice of a lie: neither shalt thou join thy hand to bear false witness for a wicked person.2 - Thou shalt not follow the multitude to do evil: neither shalt thou yield in judgment, to the opinion of the most part, to stray from the truth.3 - Neither shalt thou favour a poor man in judgment.4 - If thou meet thy enemy's ox or ass going astray, bring it back to him.5 - If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lie underneath his burden, thou shalt not pass by, but shalt lift him up with him.6 - Thou shalt not go aside in the poor man's judgment.7 - Thou shalt fly lying. The innocent and just person thou shalt not put to death: because I abhor the wicked.8 - Neither shalt thou take bribes, which even blind the wise, and pervert the words of the just.

2 Samuel (Chapter 11)

11:2 One evening David rose from his bed and strolled about on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof he saw a woman bathing; she was very beautiful.

Leviticus

Chapter 18

1Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2"Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them: I am Yahweh, your God.
3You shall not do what is done in the land of Egypt where you used to live, nor shall you do what is done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not follow their practices.
4My practices instead you will follow, and you will carry out my ordinances; I am Yahweh your God.
5Keep my practices and ordinances, for whoever keeps them finds life; I am Yahweh.

6None of you shall have sexual intercourse with a blood relative; I am Yahweh.
7Do not have intercourse with your father or your mother; she is your mother, don't have intercourse with her.
8Do not have intercourse with your father's wife: Respect your father.
9Do not have intercourse with your sister or your stepsister, whether born in the same house or elsewhere.
10Do not have intercourse with your granddaughter; that would dishonor you.
11Do not have intercourse with a half sister; she, too, is your sister.
12Do not have intercourse with an aunt, whether she is your father's sister
13or your mother's sister.
14Do not have intercourse with your uncle's wife; she, too, is your aunt.
15Do not have intercourse with your daughter-in-law
16or with your brother's wife.
17Do not have intercourse with both a woman and her daughter or her granddaughter; they are blood relatives; that is wickedness.
18While your wife is living, do not take her sister as a wife so that you make her jealous.

19Do not have intercourse with a woman during her monthly period.

21Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech and do not profane the name of your God; I am Yahweh.

24Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways for this is how the nations I am driving out before you, became defiled.
25As the land was defiled I came to punish it, and it has vomited out its inhabitants.
26You shall keep my practices and ordinances, and you shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native nor the alien living among you.
27Recall the people who did all these things before you in these lands and became defiled.
28If you defile the land it will vomit you out as it did the nations before you.
29The one who does any of these abominations shall be cut off from his people.
30Keep my laws and do not follow any of these abominable customs which were practiced before you, so as not to defile yourselves by them; I am Yahweh, your God."

Chapter 19

15Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor nor bow to the great; you are to judge your neighbor fairly so as not to share in his guilt.

16Do not go about as a slanderer of your people and do not seek the death of your neighbor; I am Yahweh.

17Do not hate your brother in your heart; rebuke your neighbor frankly so as not to share in his guilt.

18Do not seek revenge or nurture a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am Yahweh.

29You shall not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness.

30Keep my sabbaths and revere my sanctuary. I am Yahweh.

32Rise in the presence of the aged and honor the elderly; in doing this you honor your God. I am Yahweh.

33When a stranger stays with you in your land, do him no wrong.
34He shall be to you as the native among you. Love him as yourself for you have been strangers in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh, your God.

Deuteronomy

Chapter 22

25But if in the fields, a man meets a young woman promised in marriage, and violates her by force, then only the man shall die.
26The young woman shall not suffer punishment. She does not deserve death, for this case is similar to a highwayman who falls upon a man and murders him; in the same manner, the young woman was assaulted.
27She was alone in the fields, she cried but no one came to help her.

 Cleanliness in Camp (Chapter 23)

10 When in camp during an expedition against your enemies, you shall keep yourselves from anything bad.11  If one of you becomes unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he shall go outside the camp; he shall not come back into the camp.

12 Toward evening, he shall bathe in water; then, when the sun has set, he may come back into the camp.

13 Outside the camp you shall have a place set aside where you shall go.14 You shall keep a trowel in your equipment and, when you go outside to relieve yourself, you shall dig a hole with it and then cover up your excrement.15 Since the LORD, your God, journeys along in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to give your enemies over to you, your camp must be holy, so that he does not see anything indecent in your midst and turn away from you.

 23:10 幾時你出征紮營,攻打你的仇敵,應避免一切惡事。23:11 你中間如有人夜間夢遺,即成為不潔,應走出營外,不可進入營內;

Daniel (Chapter 13)

 Susanna.

1 In Babylon there lived a man named Joakim,2 who married a very beautiful and God-fearing woman, Susanna, the daughter of Hilkiah;3 her parents were righteous and had trained their daughter according to the law of Moses.4 Joakim was very rich and he had a garden near his house. The Jews had recourse to him often because he was the most respected of them all.5 That year, two elders of the people were appointed judges, of whom the Lord said, “Lawlessness has come out of Babylon, that is, from the elders who were to govern the people as judges.”6 These men, to whom all brought their cases, frequented the house of Joakim.7 When the people left at noon, Susanna used to enter her husband’s garden for a walk.8 When the elders saw her enter every day for her walk, they began to lust for her.9 They perverted their thinking; they would not allow their eyes to look to heaven, and did not keep in mind just judgments.10 Though both were enamored of her, they did not tell each other their trouble,11 for they were ashamed to reveal their lustful desire to have her.12 Day by day they watched eagerly for her.

13 One day they said to each other, “Let us be off for home, it is time for the noon meal.” So they went their separate ways.14 But both turned back and arrived at the same spot. When they asked each other the reason, they admitted their lust, and then they agreed to look for an occasion when they could find her alone.15 One day, while they were waiting for the right moment, she entered as usual, with two maids only, wanting to bathe in the garden, for the weather was warm. 16 Nobody else was there except the two elders, who had hidden themselves and were watching her.17 “Bring me oil and soap,” she said to the maids, “and shut the garden gates while I bathe.”18 They did as she said; they shut the garden gates and left by the side gate to fetch what she had ordered, unaware that the elders were hidden inside.19 As soon as the maids had left, the two old men got up and ran to her.20 “Look,” they said, “the garden doors are shut, no one can see us, and we want you. So give in to our desire, and lie with us.21 If you refuse, we will testify against you that a young man was here with you and that is why you sent your maids away.” 22 “I am completely trapped,” Susanna groaned. “If I yield, it will be my death; if I refuse, I cannot escape your power.23 Yet it is better for me not to do it and to fall into your power than to sin before the Lord.”24 Then Susanna screamed, and the two old men also shouted at her,25 as one of them ran to open the garden gates.26 When the people in the house heard the cries from the garden, they rushed in by the side gate to see what had happened to her.27 At the accusations of the old men, the servants felt very much ashamed, for never had any such thing been said about Susanna.28 When the people came to her husband Joakim the next day, the two wicked old men also came, full of lawless intent to put Susanna to death.29 Before the people they ordered: “Send for Susanna, the daughter of Hilkiah, the wife of Joakim.” When she was sent for,30 she came with her parents, children and all her relatives.31 Susanna, very delicate and beautiful,32 was veiled; but those transgressors of the law ordered that she be exposed so as to sate themselves with her beauty.33 All her companions and the onlookers were weeping.34 In the midst of the people the two old men rose up and laid their hands on her head.35 As she wept she looked up to heaven, for she trusted in the Lord wholeheartedly.36 The old men said, “As we were walking in the garden alone, this woman entered with two servant girls, shut the garden gates and sent the servant girls away.37 A young man, who was hidden there, came and lay with her.38 When we, in a corner of the garden, saw this lawlessness, we ran toward them.39 We saw them lying together, but the man we could not hold, because he was stronger than we; he opened the gates and ran off.40 Then we seized this one and asked who the young man was,41 but she refused to tell us. We testify to this.” The assembly believed them, since they were elders and judges of the people, and they condemned her to death.

42 But Susanna cried aloud: “Eternal God, you know what is hidden and are aware of all things before they come to be:43 you know that they have testified falsely against me. Here I am about to die, though I have done none of the things for which these men have condemned me.”44 The Lord heard her prayer.

45 As she was being led to execution, God stirred up the holy spirit of a young boy named Daniel,46 and he cried aloud: “I am innocent of this woman’s blood.”47 All the people turned and asked him, “What are you saying?”48 He stood in their midst and said, “Are you such fools, you Israelites, to condemn a daughter of Israel without investigation and without clear evidence?49 Return to court, for they have testified falsely against her.”50 Then all the people returned in haste. To Daniel the elders said, “Come, sit with us and inform us, since God has given you the prestige of old age.”51 But he replied, “Separate these two far from one another, and I will examine them.”52 After they were separated from each other, he called one of them and said: “How you have grown evil with age! Now have your past sins come to term:53 passing unjust sentences, condemning the innocent, and freeing the guilty,a although the Lord says, ‘The innocent and the just you shall not put to death.’54 Now, then, if you were a witness, tell me under what tree you saw them together.”55 “Under a mastic tree,”* he answered. “Your fine lie has cost you your head,” said Daniel; “for the angel of God has already received the sentence from God and shall split you in two.”56 Putting him to one side, he ordered the other one to be brought. “Offspring of Canaan, not of Judah,” Daniel said to him, “beauty has seduced you, lust has perverted your heart.57 This is how you acted with the daughters of Israel, and in their fear they yielded to you; but a daughter of Judah did not tolerate your lawlessness.58 Now, then, tell me under what tree you surprised them together.”59 “Under an oak,” he said. “Your fine lie has cost you also your head,” said Daniel; “for the angel of God waits with a sword to cut you in two so as to destroy you both.”60 The whole assembly cried aloud, blessing God who saves those who hope in him.61 They rose up against the two old men, for by their own words Daniel had convicted them of bearing false witness.b They condemned them to the fate they had planned for their neighbor:

62 in accordance with the law of Moses they put them to death. Thus was innocent blood spared that day.63 Hilkiah and his wife praised God for their daughter Susanna, with Joakim her husband and all her relatives, because she was found innocent of any shameful deed.64 And from that day onward Daniel was greatly esteemed by the people.

13:42 蘇撒納遂大聲呼號說:「永生的天主!你洞察隱秘的事,凡事在發生以前,你已知道了;13:43 你知道他們對我所作的是假見證;看,現在我要死了,然而我並沒有作過,他們惡意對我所捏造的事。」13:44 上主俯聽了她的呼聲;
